About this contest

Application Deadline: November 6, 2026

Applications are now open for the 2027 World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition. The WIPO IP Moot Court Competition is a simulated court experience where participants address IP law issues arising in a hypothetical case, including through written submissions and oral arguments before a panel of judges. It is also a great chance to connect with peers from around the world that share a passion for IP.

A chance to compete with top law students from around the world and argue a cutting-edge intellectual property dispute before international IP experts. This edition’s moot problem will explore the fast-evolving world of live streaming, where innovation, intellectual property rights, and online enforcement intersect.

Requirements

  • Open to university teams of law students aged 35 and under, the competition offers a meaningful opportunity to develop knowledge of complex IP issues while cultivating essential skills: written and oral advocacy, critical analysis, legal reasoning and professionalism.

Team Composition

  • Up to two teams from the same university may apply. Each team’s application will be evaluated independently and will not influence the outcome of the other team.

Selection Criteria

  • Participating teams will be selected through a competitive video application process.
  • The top eight teams will advance to the international stage and compete in the Finals in Geneva on June 8 to 10, 2027.

Benefits

  • WIPO will provide funding for the eight teams that qualify for the final rounds in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The funding covers the cost of travel, accommodation, and visa fees. Note that team coaches will not be funded by WIPO.
