Velvot Group of Companies is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Law graduate who has recently concluded serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to join our Legal and Compliance Department as a Legal & Compliance Assistant.
This role is crucial for supporting the legal, regulatory, and documentation needs of our Group and the Assistant will gain hands-on experience on how to be an efficient corporate counsel.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, review and advise on commercial agreements: Non-Disclosure Agreements, Service Level Agreements, Partnership Agreements, Vendor Agreements, and other contracts.
Keep a contract register and template library, and track renewals, obligations and key dates.
Flag legal and regulatory risks in Agreements and escalate non-standard terms to the Legal and Compliance Manager and Management.
Oversee all Agreements and policies drafted internally, including those prepared by other teams, to check that they are legally sound, consistent and approved before use.
Review employee-facing documents with HR: employment contracts, the employee handbook, code of conduct, HR and workplace policies, and keep them aligned with Nigerian labour and data protection law.
Maintain a policy and agreement library with version control, owners and review dates.
Monitor regulatory changes in the markets the company operates in and write short briefings on what they mean for the business.
Help prepare regulatory filings, returns, and responses to regulator requests.
Draft and update our internal and public-facing Privacy Policies and Data Agreements.
Prepare and assist in implementing a legal awareness program.
Qualification and Requirements
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and successful completion of Law School (BL).
Must have completed NYSC.
At least 1 year post qualification experience in a legal or compliance role.
Demonstrated strong interest in being a Corporate Counsel.
Exceptional legal research, writing, and communication skills. Must be highly detail-oriented and analytical.
Proactive, self-motivated, eager to learn, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
