Is your CV ATS-ready? Here's what to check

Most Nigerian corporates and international employers use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to filter CVs before a human ever reads them. If your CV isn't ATS-parseable, it doesn't matter how good the content is - it never makes the shortlist. This tool extracts text from your CV, runs the same checks an ATS would (contact info parseable, standard section headings, reasonable length) and flags the gaps.

We also match your CV against the Openings skills taxonomy and, if you pick a target role, run a gap analysis using the same corpus that powers the Skills Gap tool. A missing skill that shows up in 40+ postings for your target role is not optional - it's a priority.

Common ATS mistakes: saving a CV as a screenshot/image PDF (no parseable text), using non-standard section headings ("Journey So Far" instead of "Experience"), burying skills in prose ("familiar with modern web frameworks" beats out being explicit about React, Django, Laravel). Fix these and your interview rate typically doubles.

Frequently asked questions

Is my CV stored?

No. Your CV is processed in-memory for this single request. It is not stored, logged or sent to a third party.

Why does my CV not parse?

The most common cause is a CV saved as an image PDF (e.g. a scanned document or a screenshot rendered to PDF). Re-export from Google Docs, Word or a text-native tool and it should parse cleanly.

What's the ideal Nigerian CV length?

400-700 words for mid-career. 300-500 for entry-level. Anything over 900 words gets skimmed. Two pages max regardless of seniority.
