Career objective for CV: Nigerian examples that work

The two-sentence summary at the top of your CV - what to say, what to avoid, and 10 role-specific examples.

Published 10 Oct 2026 · Updated 21 Oct 2026

The career objective sits at the top of your CV, directly under your name. It is the first thing recruiters read. Get it right in two sentences; get it wrong and the rest of the CV may not get read.

What a good objective does

  1. Names the role you want.
  2. Says what you bring that's worth paying for.
  3. Points at the specific industry or team.

What never to write

  • "To work in a challenging environment that offers opportunities for growth" - says nothing.
  • "Seeking any available role in your esteemed organisation" - signals desperation.
  • "To utilise my skills to the best of my ability" - every candidate wants that.
  • "Looking for a position that pays well and gives work-life balance" - focuses on what you want, not what you offer.
