Senior Accountant

Continental Lithium is a revenue-generating Nigerian mineral exploration and mining company, founded in 2017 by two visionary entrepreneurs who have personally invested over $12 million into the company. Our mission is to become a fully integrated global supplier of lithium and rare earth elements, leveraging our position as the largest documented holder of lithium spodumene assets in Africa while maintaining industry leading ESG practices.

Job Description

• The Senior Accountant will personally manage the day-to-day accounting and treasury activities of the operation and help establish reliable finance processes for the group. This is a hands-on role requiring independent execution of core accounting work.
• Full-time, on-site role based in Jos, Plateau State
• The postholder will personally perform routine accounting and treasury work, while collaborating with operations and management to obtain information and approvals.
• Regular engagement with the company's mining, processing, and export operations is required. The role may also involve visits to operational sites and travel outside Jos as business needs arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate books of account and record daily financial transactions.
• Prepare bank, cash, supplier and customer reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Process payments, monitor receivables and payables, and maintain complete supporting records.
• Manage day-to-day cash and treasury activities, including cash-flow tracking and payment planning.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements and reports for management.
• Maintain records of purchases, operating costs, inventory and fixed assets; support cost tracking across mining, processing and export activities.
• Help establish and document practical accounting processes and internal controls.
• Coordinate tax and other statutory accounting requirements with relevant advisers and support audits.
• Work with operational colleagues to obtain accurate and timely financial information.

Performance Measurement and Success Indicators
The following proposed performance measures will be agreed upon with the company once the role's scope, systems, and reporting timelines have been confirmed:

• Books and reconciliations are complete, accurate and kept up to date, with reconciling items investigated promptly.
• Monthly management accounts and cash-flow reports are delivered by agreed deadlines and explain material variances.
• Payments are processed accurately, on time and only with appropriate documentation and approval.
• Receivables, payables, inventory and operating costs are reliably recorded and visible to management.
• Practical finance processes and controls are established and followed, with audit and compliance queries resolved on time.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
• ACA qualification with active ICAN membership.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience, with the ability to independently manage core accounting and treasury functions.
• Experience in the mining, extractive, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), or manufacturing sector is highly desirable.
• Strong practical knowledge of bookkeeping, account reconciliations, financial reporting, cash management, and internal accounting controls
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Jos and take direct responsibility for day-to-day finance operations.
