Diversity signals in Nigerian hiring
Structural signals from job postings + review data. Not a scorecard - a starting point for asking better questions.
Signals we look at
- Remote / flexible arrangements: broadens access for candidates outside Lagos + Abuja and for those with caring responsibilities.
- Salary transparency on postings: reduces the wage gap that opaque comp perpetuates.
- JD language: "rockstar / ninja / bro" style vs "team-oriented / collaborative" signals cultural defaults.
- Seniority mix in job openings: if all live openings are senior-only, the pipeline is starving early-career talent.
- Review sentiment on management + culture: especially the pattern of comments, not just averages.
Ask these in the interview
- What percentage of your leadership team joined internally vs externally?
- How does the promotion process work? What is the promotion rate to your seniority for people at my level?
- What is the parental leave policy - for mothers and fathers?
- How do you accommodate different working styles across the team?
- Can you introduce me to two people currently doing this role?
Structural signals matter more than statements
Every Nigerian employer has diversity language on their careers page. What matters is what shows up in the structural signals - flexible work options, salary transparency, JD language, promotion patterns and review sentiment. This tool surfaces those signals so you can weigh statements against evidence.
