How to value equity in a Nigerian offer
Equity is real compensation but you need to discount it heavily for early-stage companies. A NGN 20M paper grant at a Series A startup is worth maybe NGN 4-8M in expected value once you factor illiquidity (can you sell?), dilution risk (future rounds shrink your %), and time-to-liquidity (5-10 years is normal for a startup).
RSUs at a public company can be treated closer to face value - they vest into liquid shares. Options require the strike price consideration: value = (share value - strike) x shares. If share value falls below strike, options are underwater and worth zero.
