How to compare two Nigerian job offers

Base salary is the easy part. The rest of an offer package - bonus, signing, equity, HMO, learning budget, transport - can easily add or subtract NGN 2-4 million per year in real value. This comparator normalises everything to one annual NGN number for each offer, then applies a cost-of-living adjustment based on where you would actually be working.

The winner is the offer with the higher cost-adjusted total. A Lagos offer at NGN 1M is roughly equivalent to an Ibadan offer at NGN 620k on lifestyle terms - so the comparator uses your selected city index to convert both offers to Lagos-equivalent NGN before picking a winner.

Signing bonuses count as annualised value over the first year only. Equity is treated as annual vested value. Adjust the numbers to your assumptions - a strong offer can still be the wrong choice if the equity is illiquid or the manager is a red flag.

Frequently asked questions

Should I always pick the winner?

No. This tool tells you the cash-adjusted comparison. You still need to weigh manager quality, career trajectory, learning velocity and personal fit. Money is one dimension of the decision.

What if I don't know the equity value?

Leave it at 0 or estimate conservatively. For pre-IPO equity, most people apply a 50-80% discount to face value to account for illiquidity and dilution risk.
